Polished Concrete Basics

Polished concrete is a kind of concrete that is ground with grinding tools progressively and treated with a chemical densifier. The grinding tools are usually diamond grits with grinding cup wheels along with diamond polishing pads. Concrete may not be considered to be polished until in the 400 grit, and is considered in its final polished stage when it reaches between 1500 and 3000 grit level. After-effects that enhance the polished concrete, such as dyes and stains, can be applied as well as options like creating radial lines, borders, scoring and others to create a unique design. A choice of finish can also be customized accordingly, from a satin finish to a high-gloss finish that mimics the look of a polished stone floor.
